James H. Groves High School Diploma

 

The James H. Groves Adult High School is a state-approved adult secondary school designed to provide out-of-school youth and adults with high school credits the opportunity to complete their high school education to pursue their goals. James H. Groves is accredited by the Delaware Department of Education and the  Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS 
 
A regular Delaware High School Diploma is granted to students who satisfactorily complete a secondary school program of study that includes:  
 
English
4 Credits
Social Studies (incl. U.S. History)
3 Credits
Mathematics (incl. Alg.1, Alg.2, Geometry) 4 Credits
Science (incl.Biology)
3 Credits
World Language
2 Credits
Health Education 1/2 Credits
Career Pathway
3 Credits
Electives 4 1/2 Credits
Total 24 Credits
 

In addition to completing the required credits for graduation, the student MUST meet the state minimum required competencies in reading, writing, and mathematics. Previously earned high school credits can be evaluated for transfer credits and will be applied toward graduation requirements. 

Below are some answers to your questions, as well as the requirements to consider before enrolling in the James H. Groves Adult High School Program.

What are the requirements to enroll in the JHG program? Do I qualify?

 

YOU QUALIFY IF YOU: 

  • are 18 and older 

  • Delaware resident or you have worked in Delaware for at least one year.

    • A $40 non-refundable materials fee per semester is required.

  • Non-residents who meet the requirements can enroll in the JHG program.

    • Out-of-state students must pay $60 per half credit in addition to the material fee.
  • Out-of-school youth who are at least 16 have an opportunity to complete their high school education. 

    • You have to be withdrawn from the High School that is currently being attended. 

 

Individuals expelled from their school district cannot enroll with us for the duration of the expulsion unless a waiver from the Department of Education has been obtained. Students who register and earn credits without the waiver will lose the credits earned during that expulsion period. 

What is the In-School Credit Recovery program?
 
The In-School Credit Recovery Program permits students to continue their education at their home school and attend classes at our school to complete the graduation requirements. It also:
 
  • Provides the student with the opportunity to graduate from his/her home school while enrolled in a flexible program at Groves.
  • Provides a positive, supportive atmosphere for students with a goal of improved attendance and increased student responsibility.
  • Provides assistance for students to overcome life's problems and complete high school.
  • High school students at least 16 years of age and enrolled for at least one credit in their home school may earn an unrestricted number of credits in Groves In-School Alternative Credit Program and still graduate from their home school. 
  • To enroll in this program, students shall have permission from their home high school, parent(s), guardian(s), relative caregiver, and the Groves High School principal or designee.
  • All Groves In-School Credit Program students shall be included in their home high school's September 30th unit count. 

I want to enroll in the JHG High School program; what are the requirements?

Some of the requirements we have to enroll in our JHG program would be:
  • Having one (1 ) full credit in math and one (1)  full credit in English 

  • Your photo ID 

  • Social Security Number

  • Official transcripts from the last school you attended (we can also request those if needed)

 
If you are under 18 years:
  • Withdraw papers (from the school you are switching from)
  • The parent or Legal Guardian must be present when signing the intake forms in the office (even if you registered with us online, your parent has to be present)
